GWFC Ossoli Circle shines at the 2021 GFWC Smoky Mountain District Meeting

The annual GFWC Smoky Mountain District meeting was held by Zoom on Saturday, March 27. Seven Ossoli Circle members attended the Zoom meeting. The highlight of the meeting was Awards. Ossoli Circle placed first place in 12 areas -Arts and Culture; Education and Libraries; Environment and Conservation; Health and Wellness; Communications/Public Relations; Fundraising and Development; Jr. Special Programs/Advocate for Children; Leadership; Legislative/Public Property; Membership; GFWC Signature Program-Domestic Violence awareness and prevention; and Women’s History Resource Center. We had one second place – Civic Engagement and Issues. Many thanks to our members for turning in their time and treasures and to Elaine Ralston for excellence in reporting!

Photograph Contest:  Susan French had two entries. Her Natural Wonders photo won first place and her Our World entry won second place at the District level.

Susan French’s photography Natural Wonders entry advances to GFWC International competition.

Art Contest:   We have several entries that will be judged at the state convention. 

Joy Kelly’s 135th anniversary cake will be in the Sculpture category.

A fabric wall hanging entitled “Woodland Holiday” was entered by Lorna Matheny.  Her sister, Janie Bitner is holding the wall hanging.  In the machine quilting and embroidery category, Lorna Matheny entered a quilt titled “Just Can’t Cut It”.

For Heirloom Sewing, Roberta Pedigo entered a hand sewn child’s Christening gown.

Sharon White entered two hand woven baskets.

 

Ossoli Circle will be well represented at the state conference!
