The Civic Engagement Service Project by Ossoli Circle members was a fun ending to a wonderful and enriching program on the Love Kitchen in Knoxville. Rhonda Masser, a volunteer for the Love Kitchen, informed us of the back story of the founding twin sister Helen and Ellen who have made such an impact on many lives in Knoxville. The Love Kitchen provides meals and emergency food packages to homebound, homeless and unemployed people of all races and faiths. They work with local agencies to provide meals and donate services in the hope of promoting the self-sufficiency of those they serve. Ossoli members packed 100 bags with nutritious treats including tuna meals to go, oatmeal, cereal bars, fruit snack to mention a sampling. When the bags were packed, they were loaded into Rhonda vehicle. I do not believe there was room in the car for a single additional bag. The end of the day was filled with a feeling of accomplishment and hope for the future. The bags packed today will be given to the folks who receive meal delivery. I know they will be very happy and hopefully learned something about the hearts of Ossoli ladies.
