GFWC Ossoli Circle Hosts Smoky Mountain District Fall Meeting
Uniting in Support of Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention
GFWC Ossoli Circle was delighted to host the Smoky Mountain District Fall Meeting on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the historic Ossoli Circle Clubhouse. Approximately 50 members representing the seven GFWC clubs in the Smoky Mountain District gathered for a day of fellowship, education, and service, united in their commitment to making a difference in their communities.
The meeting focused on Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, the GFWC International Signature Program. This important initiative encourages GFWC members to raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward ending domestic and sexual violence.
District President Becki Wallace introduced members to the Red Sand Project, a powerful awareness initiative that encourages individuals to pour red sand into the cracks of sidewalks and pavement. The red sand serves as a visual reminder of those who have “fallen through the cracks” of society, particularly vulnerable individuals whose needs may go unnoticed or unmet. Bags of red sand were available for members to take home and use in their own communities, extending the message of awareness beyond the meeting.
A highlight of the program was a presentation by Elizabeth White, Project Director of Bridge to Safety, a new program serving Knox County. White shared the organization’s mission of walking alongside individuals and families affected by domestic violence, offering navigation, compassion, support, and hope every step of the way. Her presentation provided valuable insight into the challenges faced by survivors and the importance of community partnerships in helping individuals and families move toward safety and stability.
Demonstrating the spirit of GFWC service, all seven clubs in the Smoky Mountain District contributed much-needed supplies to Bridge to Safety. Together, the clubs donated:
- 44 full-size pillows
- 4 cases of bottled water
- 3 cases of ready-to-eat snacks
- 10 gift cards
- 11 recycled cell phones ready for use
Nance Gregg provided an update with group with an update with a listing resources for help as well as a copy of the GFEC Pledge to Stand With Survivors.
These contributions represent more than donated items. They are tangible expressions of compassion and support for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
The Fall Meeting was a meaningful reminder of the strength of women working together toward a common purpose. Through education, awareness, and hands-on service, the members of the Smoky Mountain District continue to demonstrate the GFWC commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities.
GFWC Ossoli Circle was honored to welcome our fellow clubwomen and to be part of this important effort to bring awareness, assistance, and hope to those affected by domestic violence.
