The National Votes for Women Trail (NVWT) Pomeroy Historical Marker placed at Ossoli Circle

The National Votes for Women Trail (NVWT) Pomeroy Historical Marker: The U.S. Womens Suffrage Centennial was celebrated last year and with this landmark anniversary, the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites and The Williams G. Pomeroy Foundation partnered to launch a new historic marker program commemorating the history of women’s suffrage in the U.S. The  National Votes for Women Trail seeks to recognize and celebrate the enormous diversity of people and groups active in the struggle for women’s suffrage. The Trail promotes a program of historical markers to commemorate the people, places, and events important to passage of the Nineteenth amendment in 1920. These markers are based on extensive research in primary sources and represent the diversity of places, events, and people of the suffrage struggle. The Trail consists of two parts: 1) a database with digital map and 2) a program of historical markers for about 250 women’s suffrage sites across the country. Each state has a coordinator who works with local people to research sites significant to the story of women’s suffrage at the national or statewide level. GFWC Ossoli Club members, Janie Bitner and Wanda Taylor applied to the Pomeroy Foundation for a grant, put in the hard work and ensured GFWC Ossoli Circle got one of these meaningful Historic Markers. The NVWT Pomeroy Historical Marker now stands tall at our historic clubhouse.

Please join us at Ossoli Circle on November 1, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. for our program “National Votes for Women’s Trail Pomeroy Historical Marker History and Dedication” given by Paula Casey, TN State Coordinator for the National Votes for Women’s Trail.

The Lizzie Crozier French  Marker is identified on the National Vote for Women’s Trail database.
