The GFWC Ossoli Circle transformed its historic clubhouse into the magical Land of Oz on October 20, 2025, for a “Wizard of Oz Replacement Party.” The themed fundraiser brought together more than 50 members and guests in support of the ongoing preservation and restoration of Ossoli’s beloved Clubhouse, with proceeds benefiting the project to re-wire the historic building.
Adding a meaningful touch to the festivities, Wanda Sobieski, President and CEO of the Knoxville Suffrage Coalition, attended as a special guest to receive a $10,000 donation from Ossoli Circle for the new Suffrage Museum soon to open in Knoxville. In recognition of this gift, Ossoli Circle will be listed as a Founder of the museum—an honor that reflects the club’s deep roots in women’s history and advocacy. Kendra Walker Patty, GFWC of TN President was also a guest for the event.
Ms. Sobieski also shared an engaging connection between The Wizard of Oz and the women’s suffrage movement, which inspired event organizers Kimery Overman and Janet Amburn-Harpe to choose the OZ theme for this year’s party.
Guests enjoyed a whimsical and delicious lunch featuring Poppyseed Chicken, Scarecrow Pasta Salad, Green Beans, Rainbow Fruit Salad, and an assortment of sweet treats. The fun continued with Oz Bingo and a lively Wizard of Oz trivia competition, filling the clubhouse with laughter and friendly competition.
The afternoon concluded with a beautiful performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” sung by Ossoli member Linda Williams, followed by a visit to the bake sale—where attendees could take home a taste of Oz.
It was truly a wonderful day of fellowship, fun, and purpose, reminding everyone that there really is no place like Ossoli!
